NEW ORLEANS – On Thursday, the U.S. Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches of American announced their All-Academic Awards for the 2022-23 track & field season.

Both the Milwaukee men's & women's track & field teams earned team honors, while three student-athletes achieved recognition as All-Academic Athletes. The three student-athletes were
Natalie Block,
Annie Guerrero, and
Kate Watson, all among the top individual student-athlete in the nation.

To receive team recognition, the cumulative grade-point average must be 3.00 or higher on a 4.00 scale, including the most recent grading period.

This past year, the women's track & field team finished with a 3.652 cumulative GPA, good enough for the 16th-best team GPA in all of NCAA Division I. There was a total of 250 teams to achieve a 3.00 GPA or better across the nation, and are the top program in the State of Wisconsin as well as the Horizon League. The next closest team in the Horizon League placed 50th on the list.

The men's track & field team accomplished a cumulative GPA of 3.306 for the academic year, finishing 74th of the 193 teams to earn team recognition. Milwaukee was one of three programs in the Horizon League to be within the top 100 programs, while the team was also one of two Division I programs within the State of Wisconsin in the top 100.

For individual honors, a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of a 3.25 on a 4.00 scale, while also completing at least two semesters at their respective institution.

For the indoor season, an athlete must have finished the season ranked in the top 96 in any championship individual event, or top 48 in any championship relay event. The outdoor season honorees must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships (including the preliminary competitions), or for multi-events must have finished the season ranked in the top 48 in either the West or East regions.

Block had a strong showing during the indoor season, and ultimately earned Alfreeda Goff Athlete of the Year honors for her efforts. She was an individual champion in the 60-meter records during the indoor season with top marks in the 200-meter, 300-meter, and 400-meter dashes, while also recording the top program mark in the 60-meter hurdles. Block owns a 3.504 cumulative GPA heading into the fall 2023 semester.

Guerrero qualified for the NCAA West Preliminaries in the high jump, after taking third in the high jump during the Horizon League Outdoor Championships. Earlier in the season, Guerrero took second in the high jump at the Indoor Championships. Guerrero tied her outdoor program record earlier this spring at 1.75 meters. Guerrero finished her academic career at Milwaukee with a 3.706 GPA.

Watson was able to put together another top-tier season for the Panthers, culminating in an individual championship title at the Horizon League Indoor Championships at a program-record 4.05 meters, while taking second during the outdoor championship meet. Watson has a cumulative 3.515 GPA.

All three of Milwaukee's individual honorees also earned All-Academic recognition from the Horizon League this past year, including Guerrero who was named to the All-Academic Team during both the indoor and outdoor campaigns. Block and Watson were recognized for the indoor track & field season.
