Men's Track & Field Continues to Make Strides at Mark Guthrie Invitational

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Milwaukee men's track & field program took to the course at the Mark Guthrie Legacy Invitational hosted by Wisconsin-La Crosse on Saturday afternoon.

The Panthers performed well at the meet with several top performances along the day as well as numerous personal bests.

"We took some strides forward in areas that we were looking to do that in," said head coach Andrew Basler after the meet.

On the track side the Panthers had three third place finishes as Golden Cotton took third in the 200m with a time of 22.34. Aidan Sodemann took third in the mile run with a time of 4:28.97 and was just 18.2 seconds off of the lead.

Chris Hudnall continued his recent success in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.24 in the preliminaries to qualify and finish third in the finals with a time of 8.23.

Six personal bests fell for MKE including four in the 200m as Isaac Dauffenbach (22.90), Caleb Henry (22.88), Anthony Kessler (22.63), and Dane Nelson (22.45) all set PRs.

In distance events, both Gavin Czarnecki at 2:01.94 and Wade Duffek at 2:06.44 had personal-best times during the men's 800m.

"Individually Dylan Sieloff was going after another personal record, but the pole vault group as a whole has been really consistent this year which has been really great to see," Basler added.

Sieloff led the collegiate field in the pole vault and was second overall with a vault of 4.73m.

Austin Wallace had Milwaukee's lone win of the afternoon for the men's program as he led the field of 29 in the long jump with a distance of 7.57 meters, with his closest competitor .36 meters behind.

Anthony Campbell took second in the high jump at 1.95m, while Caleb Rogalski had a pair of podium finishes with a second place throw in the weight throw at 18.14 meters and third in the shot put at 16.44 meters.

Two personal bests were set in the triple jump for the Panthers as Bishop Bufford cleared 13.34 meters, while Bryant McLaughlin also had a career-best jump at 13.07 meters.

"Overall it was another good trip," Bassler added. "Next week we'll be taking the squad out to Grand Valley State to get on a 300 meter track and hopefully continue to take those final steps we're looking to take before we gear up for the Horizon League championships." Milwaukee will be at Grand Valley State on Friday morning for a 9 a.m. start in Allendale, Michigan.
