CHICAGO – The Milwaukee men's track & field program started their indoor season today at the Blue Demon Holiday Invite in Chicago, hosted by DePaul University. The Panthers managed to add to the Milwaukee record books on five different occasions throughout the day.
Competing against multiple different schools at the meet, the Panthers were able to secure four individual wins, and multiple other podium finishes.
In his first meet in the black & gold, Divine Aniamaka jumped into the record books with his performance in the triple jump. Aniamaka recorded a distance of 14.73 meters, good enough for first place and the eighth best mark in program history.
Anthony Campbell also made an appearance on the podium and in the record books. Campbell recorded a high jump of 2.08 meters, winning the event and tying for the sixth best mark in Milwaukee history.
"Our jumpers performed very well, especially for how early it is in the season," head coach Andrew Basler said.
Golden Cotton took the top spot in the 200 meter dash, recording a time of 21.80. Cotton's time puts him at fifth all time, just behind his best of 21.68. Cotton also placed third in the 60 meter dash with a time of 6.81, good enough for second all time. His time of 6.87 in the preliminary heat ties for third on Milwaukee's list.
Nate Griepentrog dominated the mile run, winning by six seconds with a time of 4:17.07.
Caleb Henry secured a second place finish in the 400 meter run with a 49.44 time, and Harper Fahey placed second in the 600 meter run, clocking 1:24.43.
Dane Nelson took second in the 200 meter dash behind Cotton, recording a time of 22.19. Nelson also placed third in the 60 meter hurdles. Alexander Maggit,
Tim Maidment, and Mason Weaver placed second, third, and fourth in the long jump.
Collin Schulz and
Chris Dobbie joined Campbell for a sweep of the high jump podium, placing second and third respectively.
Bishop Bufford took third in the triple jump, and
Jack Misky placed third in the shot put.
Jackson Statz placed third in the 300 meter dash with a 35.44 mark, rounding out Milwaukee's podium finishers.
"I thought we did much better than last year at this meet, and I think the team is in a really good spot for how early it is in the year," Basler said.
The Panthers will be back in the action after the holiday break on January 6 at the Illini Open.
