Egge Takes Fifth, Panthers Finish Third at Conference Championship

October 28, 2023

FAIRBORNAnelise Egge placed fifth at the Horizon League Cross Country Championship meet today, helping the Panthers to a third-place team finish and earning First-Team All Horizon League honors.

Egge crossed the line with a time of 21:17.7, the sixth best time in program history, and a new career best for the sophomore. Cailin Kinas was the next Panther to cross the line, taking 22nd with a time of 22:24.1.

"The women got out extremely well in that first kilometer or so," head coach Andrew Basler remarked. "After that they got a little comfortable and ended up having to fight for their spots near the end of the race. I think it's something to learn from for our next meet at regionals, and next year with nearly everyone coming back."

Eileen Tocco, Brittany Helm, and Ally Schmitz placed 27th, 30th, and 32nd, rounding out the scoring for Milwaukee. Tocco (22:44.2) and Schmitz (22:55.8) both recorded new career bests.

"I think it was a grounding experience for the girls, having won the last few years," associate head coach Jake Reilly said. "They ran well, and now they have to use that experience to prepare for regionals and hopefully go for a top fifteen finish."

As a team, the Panthers scored 116 points and finished behind Oakland and Purdue Fort Wayne.

Up next for the Panthers is the NCAA Regional Meet on November 10th, which will be held this year in Madison, Wisconsin.
