CHICAGO, Ill. – Field events led the charge for the Milwaukee men's track and field team at the Midwest Invite on Saturday.
"I thought it was a solid way to pick up where we left off at our December meet," head coach
Andrew Basler said. "Overall, we saw some good effort and good execution. With every meet we get now, we are going to get a little better as we get those competitive reps."
Austin Wallace wasted no time making an impact for Milwaukee, capturing the long jump title with a mark of 7.60 meters on his final jump. The senior topped the 14-person field which included four teammates.
Will Mortimer (6.72 meters),
Anthony Campbell (6.60),
Tim Maidment (5.97), and
Bishop Bufford (5.81) also competed in the event.
Bufford also took part in the triple jump and set a new personal-best of 13.15 meters.
Caleb Rogalski and
Gracien Jules led the charge in the throws, each recording a pair of top-10 finishes. Rogalski placed seventh in the weight throw with a toss of 17.76 meters while Jules led in the shot put with a mark of 16.70 meters.
In the pole vault,
Dylan Sieloff and
Evan Bartelsen were solid, each earning top-three finishes. Sieloff set a new personal-best of 4.77 meters while Bartelsen placed third with a mark of 4.73 meters.
Campbell led a group of six Panthers in the high jump, reaching 1.96 meters to place sixth.
Golden Cotton led the way for Milwaukee in the 60-meter dash, qualifying for the finals with a time of 6.89. The senior improved that to 6.86 in the finals to finish sixth and match his personal best time.
In the 60-meter hurdles,
Chris Hudnall and
Dane Nelson each reached the finals, crossing in 8.24 and 8.35, respectively.
Hudnall also turned in the Panthers' best time in the 300-meter dash, crossing in 36.69 seconds.
In the 600-meter run, Edgardo Valdez Gonzalez placed fourth with a time of 1:22.99.
Trevor Wenzel finished fourth in the 3,000-meter race, crossing in 8:27.38.
"Overall, a pretty solid meet. We learned a lot about things we need to work on to move forward. We're excited to get to our home meet next week."
The Panthers will next host the Tierney Classic on Saturday, January 21. The event kicks off at 10:00 am from the Klotsche Center.
