MKE Returns to Action at Midwest Invite

Saturday, December 14 | Midwest Invite | Chicago, Ill.

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Milwaukee men's and women's track and field team will return to Gately Indoor Track Facility this weekend for the Midwest Invite, hosted by Wisconsin.

Need to Know
Field events will begin at 11:45 am followed by running events at 2:20 pm.  
 
General admission tickets are available for spectators and can be purchased for $10 here.

Scouting the Competition
Milwaukee will be tested with a solid field that includes host Wisconsin, Purdue, Illinois, and Southern Illinois.
 
Each of the Big Ten schools have one meet under their belts this year while it marks the season opener for Southern Illinois.
 
Last Time Out
It was an early start for the Panthers, who competed at the Blue Demon Holiday Invite in December. The MKE men turned in multiple top-10 finishes while sprints highlighted the the women's side. Dominique Thomas won the 60-meter dash with a personal-best time of 7.52 seconds. The sophomore also set a new PR in the 200-meter, placing second in 25.03.
 
Last Season Recap
Both the Panther men and women captured runner-up finishes at the Horizon League Indoor Championships a year ago.
 
Austin Wallace shined for Milwaukee as he was named Outstanding Performer for the field events thanks to his first-place finish in the heptathlon and school record mark in the long jump.
 
Natalie Block, the Horizon League Indoor Athlete of the Year, won the pentathlon and 60-meter hurdles. She was also named Outstanding Performer for the field events. Lauren Lietzke also had a solid championship, finishing first in the shot put. 
 
Cross Country Rewind
It was another successful cross country season for the Panthers as the women captured their third straight title and fourth in the last five seasons. Meg Swietlik (3rd), Cailin Kinas (4th), and Anelise Egge (10th) led the Panthers with top-10 finishes and were named All-Horizon League First Team for Milwaukee who was clear of the field by 39 points.
 
On the men's side, Tevor Wenzel placed sixth to help lead the Milwaukee men's cross country team to a fifth-place finish at the Horizon League Championships.

Up Next
Milwaukee will host its first of two events this season, the Tierney Classic, on Saturday, January 21. The event will begin at 10:00 am.
