MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Both Milwaukee men's and women's track and field team have been pegged to finish second according to the 2023 Horizon League indoor preseason poll, which was announced by the league on Wednesday.
The Panther men, who have recorded three consecutive second-place finishes at the Horizon League Indoor Championships, earned one first place vote and 100 total poll points. The MKE women also earned one first-place vote and 120 total poll points.
Youngstown State is the preseason favorite for both the men and the women. The defending champions earned eight first place votes in the men's poll, and ten first place votes in the women's poll.
The top four for both the men and the women are the same with Oakland and Purdue Fort Wayne coming in third and fourth, respectively.
Detroit Mercy and IUPUI follow on the men's side with 68 and 66 points while Northern Kentucky (57) and Wright State (46) round out the poll.
On the women's side, Northern Kentucky came in at fifth with 83 points while IUPUI (67 points), Robert Morris (66), and Detroit Mercy (63) were all within four of each other.
Wright State and Cleveland State rounded out the poll with 48 and 38 points, respectively.
Milwaukee will open the indoor season on Friday, December 9 at the Blue Demon Holiday Invite which is hosted by DePaul.
