ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Milwaukee women's track & field team battled in day one of the Horizon League Outdoor Championships held in Elaine Leigh Track & Field Complex Friday.
At the end of Friday's action, the Panthers currently sit fourth with 13 points, trailing Robert Morris (27 points), Youngstown St. (27 points), and Purdue Fort Wayne (22 points).
Nolie Anderson got Milwaukee on the board with a victory in the discus. The freshman registered a 44.85-meter throw in the event to earn the team 10 points. Also throwing in the event was
Mercedes Herrera, who turned in a 37.15-meter outing.
At the half-way point of the heptathlon,
Anna Szepieniec currently sits second with 3036 points, followed closely by
Kallie Volk, who accumulated 2897 points.
Kara Meeteer finds herself in 11th place after day one, earning 2228 points.
For Szepieniec, her top finish came in the 200-meter dash where she ended first, running a 24.98. Her other performances included a second-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles (13.93), fifth-place in the shot put (9.96 meters), and 11th-place in the high jump (1.51 meters).
Volk took the top spot in the heptathlon high jump with an effort of 1.66 meters. She also recorded third-place performances in the 100-meter hurdles (15.14) and 200-meter dash (26.72).
Meeteer registered marks of 1.51 meters in the high jump, 28.06 in the 200-meter dash, 8.71 meters in the shot put, and 17.65 in the 100-meter hurdles.
In the javelin, Volk was the top Panther finisher, securing sixth with a throw of 35.82 meters. Meeteer and
Jade Sok competed in the event as well, recording efforts of 24.61 meters and 23.94 meters, respectively.
Advancing to the finals of the 1500-meter run was
Janiyah Taylor, who crossed the line 12th with a personal-best time of 4:46.20.
Eileen Tocco added a 5:08.87 effort in the event.
Anna Gallagher ran a career best time of 37:37.92 in the 10,000-meter, taking home 15th place.
Isabella Switalski wasn't far behind, recording a time of 40:07.29.
