Strong Performances Lead Panthers in Busy Friday Slate

MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee women's track & field team competed in a pair of meets Friday, with athletes battling in Wisconsin's Badger Invite as well as Illinois' Gary Wieneke Memorial.

At the meet in Urbana-Champaign, Ill., three athletes competed in the 200-meter dash. Katie Burns was the top finisher for the Black & Gold, crossing the line fourth with a career-best time of 24.31. Her mark currently ranks sixth in the Panther record books for the event. Angelica Refinski secured ninth place, clocking a career-best time of 24.89. Turning in a time of 25.52 was Victoria Evtimov, finishing 17th.
 
Clocking the ninth-best 400-meter hurdle time in program history was Victoria Spagnola, who finished fourth after her personal-best 1:01.88 outing.
 
BADGER INVITE
 
At the meet in Madison, Wis., Nevia Levenhagen got the Panthers going with a runner-up finish in the long jump. She recorded an outdoor career-best jump of 5.89 meters, a mark that ranks eighth in the program record books for the event. Lauren Wickus also put together a solid outing, ending sixth after an outdoor season-best 5.33-meter leap. Kara Meeteer added to the team's jump success, nabbing seventh (5.33 meters).
 
Wickus' success continued into the high jump, where she cleared a career-best 1.64 meters for a runner-up finish. Chloe Hedman, Alexandria Simmons, and Anna Szepieniec all jumped 1.59 meters in the event.
 
Levenhagen chipped in a third-place finish in the triple jump with her 11.43-meter outing. Jumping 10.63-meters in the event was Jade Sok.
 
Claudia Conner was the top Panther finisher in the shot put, registering an 11.48-meter effort.
 
The duo of Nolie Anderson and Mercedes Herrera battled in discus, turning in 41.51- and 38.18-meter outings, respectively.
 
In the 100-meter dash, Isabel Roloff crossed the line eighth after running a 12.15, while Lilly Wepking completed the race in 12.81. Wepking also competed in the 200-meter dash, registering a time of 26.41 to end seventh.
 
Three members of the Black & Gold cracked the top-10 in the javelin throw, with Kallie Volk leading the charge. She recorded a 33.01-meter throw to secure sixth. Meeteer was not far behind, registering a season-best 32.39-meter outing. Szepieniec rounded out the Panther trio, hurling a career-best 31.98-meters.
 
Coming away with a runner-up finish in the pole vault was Emma Johnson, who cleared 3.70 meters in the event. Hailey Soriaga, Isabel Roloff, and Ella Laughbaum all competed in the event as well, each jumping 3.55 meters.
 
Eileen Tocco and Janiyah Taylor both competed in the 1500m, clocking times of 4:48.09 and 4:49.84, respectively.
 
UP NEXT
 
The Panthers look ahead to day two of Illinois' Gary Wieneke Memorial Saturday. The first events are scheduled to kick off at 12:00 p.m. CT at Demerjian Park.
