Women's Swimming & Diving Will Montreal

Ten Individual Victories Leads Panthers Past Maroons

Milwaukee opens 2022 with win

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Milwaukee women's swim and dive team defeated the University of Chicago Saturday afternoon 168.5-131.5 inside Klotsche Natatorium in its first dual of 2022, improving to 4-0 on the season.

The Panthers collected ten individual victories against the Maroons while tallying a pair of relay wins as well.

Nhia Caras and Makaila Scheiblein each tallied a pair of individual victories to lead the way for Milwaukee. Caras (23.88) picked up her third win of the season in the 50 freestyle while also claiming the top spot in the 100 free (53.23). Scheiblein also collected her third individual victories in both the 100 breaststroke (1:06.87) and 200 breast (2:25.20).

"We were very happy to come away with so many good results today," head coach Kyle Clements said. "We just returned from a team training trip, and we have every excuse to swim slow, but our team is extremely resilient."

Skylar Ruggles touched the wall first in two events as well, claiming the top spot in the 200 backstroke (2:04.45) and 100 back (57.48).

Others to tally individual victories included Antoni Haupt (10:38.59) in the 1000 free, Allie Buytendorp (1:56.93) in the 200 free, Bella Passamani (58.42) in the 100 butterfly, and Meghan Jagdfeld (1:00.60) in the 100 IM.

The Panthers two relay teams posted first-place finishes to further showcase the strong day in the pool. The 200 medley team of Ruggles, Scheiblein, Molly Meland, and Caras finished with a time of 1:47.53 while the 400 free team of Kelen McDaniels, Passamani, Sydney Dahl, and Caras recorded a mark of 3:33.80.

"All of our men and women put in their best efforts, and we couldn't have been more impressed," Clements commented. "Our men and women understand that the end of the year results are our ultimate goal. Meets like these make us perform in uncomfortable situations and prepare us for our final swims of the season."

Milwaukee returns to the pool next Saturday against Green Bay for the final Horizon League dual of the regular season. The meet is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
