Panthers Win 10 Events to Begin Season

Hayashi, Scully earn gold in multiple individual events

October 18, 2026

BROWN DEER, Wis. - The Milwaukee women's swim & dive program secured 10 first-place finishes en route to a dominant showing at the Wisconsin Showcase to begin the 2026-27 campaign Saturday afternoon.

The 200 medley relay got things started right away for the Panthers, who went on to earn 1798 points as a team at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center. The unit of Carly Plate, Elena Zippel, Maddi Hayashi and Christiana Brooks turned in a time of 1:46.11.

Hayashi followed up that performance with individual victories in the 100 and 200 butterfly, fresh off of winning both events at the Horizon League Championships last year.

Brooks was more of the same, as the reigning Horizon League champion in the 100 freestyle received gold. The O'Fallon, Ill. native won the event by over a second with a time of 53.02 seconds.

Tatum Scully also won a pair of events Saturday, tallying first place in the 200 and 500 freestyle.

In the 200 individual medley, Kambree Draper emerged as the top performer, notching gold with a time of 2:09.62.

Heidi Swerkun and Nadia Switalski placed first and second, respectively, in the 100 breaststroke. Swerkun, in her collegiate debut, covered the distance in 1:06.98.

Kristina Wittmann capped off Milwaukee's day with two victories in the diving events, scoring 256.58 points in the one-meter dive. The senior followed it up with 254.55 points in the three-meter dive.

The Panthers will return to competition Saturday, Oct. 31, at the UIC Triangular. The meet is slated to start at 11:00 a.m. CT, as Milwaukee will battle against host UIC and IU Indy at the Flames Natatorium.

"We had a very long week of training and assistant coach Alex Hallam and I were both impressed on the times that were put up," head coach Kyle Clements said. "We are looking forward to the next couple of weeks of training and what we will be able to do on Halloween."
