Lucas And Wilbourn Honored By Horizon League

Lucas lands on second team

MILWAUKEE – Te'Jon Lucas of the Milwaukee men's basketball team was named to the All-Horizon League Second Team today when the league announced its postseason awards as voted on by league coaches, sports information directors and local media.

C.J. Wilbourn was also recognized, earning a spot on the Horizon League All-Freshmen Team.

Lucas has been a team leader in his first season on the court for the Panthers, sitting second on the squad in scoring at 14.6 points per game while topping the roster in assists (5.1 apg) and steals (1.8 spg) in addition to adding 4.2 rebounds per contest. He currently leads the conference in both categories (AST/STL), looking to become just the fifth player in Horizon League history to reach that statistical achievement.

He has scored 20 or more points on seven occasions, including a career-high 31 twice – the first time against Green Bay in January during a span in which he was named Horizon League Player of the Week. He has paced the team in scoring 10 times while his season assist total currently sits in sixth place on the all-time single season list in program history. His per-game total also checks in at sixth-best all-time.

Wilbourn has played an immediate role as a freshman, starting each of the first 29 games of the season. He is averaging 4.3 points and 2.9 rebounds per game and has gotten hot down the stretch, connecting on 65 percent of his field goals (26-for-40) over the past nine games. He has scored in double-figures on three occasions, netting 11 against Western Michigan as his season high.

He is the first Panther to be named to the All-Freshman team since Jordan Aaron in 2012-13 (formerly the All-Newcomer team).

The Panthers open postseason play Tuesday at Youngstown State, set to tip at 6 p.m. CST. The teams split the season series, with the road team winning each contest.
