MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee men's basketball program is pausing all team activities following a COVID-19 positive test result in its Tier 1 group.
Due to the situation, the team will not participate in the season-opening MKE Classic it was set to host. That event has been cancelled and the Panthers will now miss the first two contests of the 2020-21 season, which were scheduled for Nov. 27 and Nov. 29.
For reasons of medical privacy, Milwaukee Athletics will not identify any of the affected student-athletes or staff members.
The program was notified of positive results as a routine part of the program's regular surveillance testing, which is done three times per week for Tier 1 personnel in accordance with NCAA protocols. Tier 1 members include student-athletes, coaches, team managers and support staff.
The health and well-being of all student-athletes and MKE staff remains at the top of the program concerns throughout this process and moving forward. Milwaukee Athletics will continue to follow all guidelines and safety protocols put forth by the program, state, Horizon League and NCAA.
