Panthers Sweep Pointers In Final Dual Meet

Milwaukee sets eyes on league championships

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The Milwaukee women's swimming team swept all 14 events in the final dual meet of the regular season against UW-Stevens Point on Friday, Jan. 31, in Stevens Point, Wis.

The Panthers topped the Pointers, 205-54.

Milwaukee first took the top-three spots in the 200 medley relay. The Panther freshmen of Molly Meland, Bri Zablocki, Hannah Pozezinski, and Kelen McDaniels led the way to finish first with a time of 1:51.02.

Swimming the 1000 free for the first time in her career, Natalie Sepic also claimed a win in the event in 10:56.07 while Sydney Dahl finished second in 11:01.95.

Bri Zablocki snuck ahead to out-touch UWSP in the 200 free for first place with a time of 1:59.74.

In both the 100 and 200 back, the Panthers grabbed the top-four spots. Leading the way in the 100 back was Riley Melendy in 1:00.45 while Giulia Guerra-Montes came next (1:00.96) followed by Alicia Beam for third (1:02.83) and Paige Murphy for fourth (1:03.02).

In the 200 back, Amber Secrist touched the wall first (2:11.00) with Hannah Pozezinski (2:13.34), Mia Piljevic (2:16.43), and Paige Murphy (2:17.35) claiming the next three spots.

The breaststroke duo of Angela Kordik (1:12.18) and Andrea Bellart (1:12.36) went 1-2 in the 100 breast and then again in the 200 breast with Bellart touching first in 2:37.66 and Kordik in second in 2:41.62.

The Panthers then took the top-three spots in the 200 fly, led by Bella Passamani with a time of 2:13.43 for first, Brianna Homontowski for second (2:14.38) and Madeline Worgull for third (2:18.04).

Passamani also led the pool in the 500 free in 5:19.79 with Worgull shortly after in 5:25.17 for second place.

Sprinting to the top-three spots in the 50 free were Kelen McDaniels (24.78) for first, Molly Meland (25.30) in second, and Natalie Hey (25.34) for third.

Meland (55.45) and Hey (55.87) jumped right back in for a quick turnaround as they both then raced in the 100 free. But that didn't slow either of them down as they touched the wall first and second respectively.

In the next two events, Milwaukee grabbed the top-four spots.

In the 100 fly, McDaniels led the way in 1:01.08 for first place while Pozezinski finished second (1:01.21), Homontowski took third (1:01.56) and Sepic picked up fourth (1:02.18).

Then in the 200 IM, Zablocki touched first in 2:14.23 with Guerra-Montes (2:14.65) and Melendy (2:14.95) just after for second and third and Meghan Jagdfeld claimed fourth in 2:19.06.

Closing out the night of competition and rounding out the full sweep was the winning 200 free relay team of McDaniels, Meland, Hey, and Hutchins with a time of 1:41.04.
