MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Milwaukee women's swimming and diving team were unable to keep up with Green Bay in an in-state rivalry dual on Senior Day on Saturday, Jan. 25, at the Klotsche Natatorium.
The Phoenix outpaced the Panthers, 172-127, in the final home meet for the seniors and for the season.
Claiming two event wins on the day was
Giulia Guerra-Montes. The sophomore first led the pool in the 200 back (2:05.57) while teammates
Riley Melendy (2:07.79) and
Amber Secrist (2:09.39) made it a Panther sweep, placing second and third respectively.
Guerra-Montes then raced the 400 IM to a first-place finish in 4:36.41.
From the boards,
McKenzie Sanchez continues to lead as she also grabbed a pair of wins on both the one-meter and three-meter events. The freshman scored a personal best of 289.50 on the one-meter and 248.85 on the three-meter to sweep the diving events.
Molly Meland would also grab an event win for the Panthers in the 100 back. The freshman touched the wall in 57.92, which was over two seconds ahead of second place. She also added a second-place finish in the 100 fly with a time of 58.00.
Rounding out the event wins was
Kelen McDaniels in the 50 free. She was the lone swimmer to touch the wall under 25 seconds, claimed first place with a time of 24.78.
McDaniels also finished in second place in the 100 free, touching the wall in 54.60.
The Panthers picked up a few top-three finishes.
First,
Madeline Worgull led the Panthers in the 1000 free with a time of 11:01.98 to finish third while
Natalie Sepic claimed third in the 500 free (5:17.74). Additionally,
Bella Passamani clocked in at 1:58.09 to take third in the 200 free and
Bri Zablocki also finished third in the 200 fly (2:11.01).
The 200 medley relay team of Meland,
Andrea Bellart, Zablocki, and McDaniels finished second with a time of 1:49.49, out-touching third-place Green Bay by less than half a second.
Ending the night was the 400 free relay team of McDaniels,
Natalie Hey,
Cassandra Hutchins, and Meland who also finished second with a time of 3:38.09.
ON DECK
The Panthers hit the road for one final match-up before heading to the big show. Milwaukee will take on UW-Stevens Point on Friday, Jan. 31, in the final dual meet of the regular season while the diving team will compete at the UIC Diving Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 1.
