GREEN BAY, WIS. – Freshman
Mason Schoof won twice at Green Bay while the team came up short in a 197-103 team loss from the Dorschel Natatorium Satruday afternoon.
The 200 Free event was a photo-finish when
Mason Schoof touched the wall one-hundredth of a second quicker than Green Bay's Nick Garcia. Schoof edged out Garcia by a time of 1:43.32 to Garcia's 1:43.33 for his first victory of the day.
Schoof won a little more breathing room in the 200 Back, but the race was still close nonetheless. The Muskeo native timed in at 1:53.72, beating out GB's Charlie Warren who came in at 1:54.80. Teammate
Ben Cadel picked up valuable points for the Panthers earning a third place finish with a time of 1:55.97.
Cadel also picked up another third place finish when he tied teammate Matt Jansen at 52.75 in the 100 Back.
MKE's
Kareem Nofel and
Patrick Kelley also earned first place finishes in their respective events as well. Nofel took the 100 Butterfly touching the wall at 50.98, while Kelley grueled out a 4:09.29 time in the 400 IM to stand at the top of the podium.
In sprints, MKE finished two-three-four in the 50 Free.
Ahmed Ghallab led the Panthers with a time of 21.58 while
Jasper Appleton (21.86) and
John Ruan (21.91) finished right behind.
Leading the Panthers in the dive events was senior
Dakota Skenandore. In the 1 meter event, Skenandore was edged out by GB's Derrick Prenot for second place. Prenot scored 254.17 to Skenandore's 254.02.
The Panthers wrapped up the dual with a second place in the 800 Free Relay.
Ryan Scripp,
Jacob Fase, Schoof and Cadel went the distance with a final time of 7:03.56.
MKE will finish the regular season next Saturday, Feb. 2 (Senior Day) against UW-Stevens Point from the Klotsche Natatorium. The meet is set to begin at 1 p.m.
