CLEVELAND, Ohio – Senior
Sara Bentley made sure to make plenty of noise on Day 2 of the Horizon League Swim & Dive Championships on Thursday at the Busbey Natatorium.
Bentley began the day by winning the prelims in the 200 IM with a time of 2:02.30 beating Lexie Joy of UIC by .11 of a second. In the finals, the Ames, Iowa native not only knocked off almost a full second off her prelim time, she finished with a personal-best, NCAA B-Cut 2:01.33 for the spot at the top of the podium.
Junior
Addison Skogman started day 2 of the Horizon League Championships by reaching the finals in the 500 Freestyle. Skogman raced a personal-best 4:54.44, good for fifth place.
Alena Bodnaruk and freshman
Annabelle Ladik reached the B-Final in the same event and finished in 5:00.57 and 5:04.19, respectively.
In sprints, the women's swim & dive team had two in the 50 Freestyle final. In a race that was defined by hundredths of a second,
Shelby Rozeboom took the podium stand in third place with a time of 23.42, while
Arica Smith came in seventh at 23.85.
Emma Helgeson and
Jenn Kordik reached the B-Final in the same event and earned valuable points for the Panthers with final times of 23.63 and 24.12.
On the men's side, freshman
Andrew Grever made the cut to the B-Final in the 500 Freestyle and finished 15
th with a time of 4:35.72
Both
Bailey Bodart and
Kyle Gerum also made the B-Final in the 50 Free. Bodart finished 10
th with a time of 20.76, while Gerum touched the wall at 20.77 for 11
th.
In the men's 1-meter Dive,
Spencer Peronto made the B-Final and finished in 10
th with a score of 250.10. Fellow teammate
Draven Feustel also made the B-Final and finished in 12
th, respectively.
To end the day, the Milwaukee Panthers finished with the 200 Freestyle Relay with success. The women earned second place as Rozeboom, Bentley, Helgeson and Smith teamed up and reached the wall in 1:32.78 behind Oakland's time of 1:31.74.
The men's squad comprised of
Bailey Bodart,
Jasper Appleton,
Ahmed Ghallab and
Kyle Gerum finished middle of the back at 1:22.09, good for fourth place.
Through two days of competition, the women's team sits in second with 211 points, and the men are in seventh place with 110.5 points.
Swimming prelims once again begin at 8 a.m. CT on Friday, Feb. 23 from the Busbey Natatorium. The day's competition includes the 100 Butterfly, 400 IN, 200 Freestyle, 100 Breastroke, 100 Backstroke, 400 Medley Relay, and the women's 1-meter Dive.
