INDIANAPOLIS- The Milwaukee women's swimming & diving team earned second place at the Horizon League Championships for the second year in a row, with Kyle Clements repeating as Women's Coach of the Year. The men finished in fourth, with Gunnar Seversen earning Freshman of the Meet with his stellar performance at the event.

The women finished with 655 points on the weekend, the men earning 414 for their best finish at the league championships since 2015.

"I've been to a lot of swim meets through the years, but this one will go down as one of the fastest and most competitive ones of my career," Clements said recapping the weekend. "Our program rose and met the challenge that was this meet, and you will see evidence of it all over our record board and in our history books."

Seversen wrapped up his outstanding week in the 1650 freestyle, setting yet another school record with a second-place performance of 15:26.51.

The Panthers got two top five finishers in the women's 200 backstroke, Mara Freeman taking second with a time of 2:00.69, and Skylar Ruggles swam to a fifth-place finish at 2:01.96.

In the women's 100 freestyle, Janelle Schulz found the podium one more time coming in at 50.37 to finish second. Christiana Brooks qualified for the finals as well, managing eighth after touching the wall in 51.24.

Leading the men in the event, Caleb Carlisle capped an impressive freshman campaign with a third-place showing where he reached the finish line in 1:47.47.

Another first-year athlete making noise on the day was Alvin Valkki, as his prelim time of 1:59.85 in the 200 breaststroke was another program best for Milwaukee. He would go on to take eighth overall on the day with his finals time of 2:01.25.

Hanna DeGrace finished in eighth place for the women, notching a time of 2:23.11. Gabrielle LePine won the consolation finals for the event at 2:20.83.

"Not everything went perfectly, no meet ever does, but our athletes kept stepping back up and responding when needed," Clements added. "Alex (Hallam), Todd (Hill), and I are proud of where this program is, and every single person that makes up this roster."

The women's 400 freestyle relay team of LePine, Brooks, Schulz, as well as Grace Hudson made sure the Panthers ended with one more program record and a podium finish, coming in second at 3:22.70.
