Milwaukee Overcomes Green Bay, Suffers Losses to IU Indy and Cleveland State in Conference Opener

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Milwaukee women's swimming & diving team opened its season at IU Indy against a trio of conference opponents Friday and Saturday.

The Panthers claimed their first victory of the season over conference foe Green Bay by a score of 197.50-137.50. The team recorded a 1-2 record on the weekend, falling to Cleveland State (228-107) and IU Indy (224-113).

"We have never started our season this early, and this was a fun way to kick it off," Head coach Kyle Clements noted. "This meet provided us so much, it provided us a chance to get to know our new team members, it provided us insight of where our fitness level is, and it provides us with goals moving forward."

Milwaukee was led by 2024-25 All Conference honorees Maddi Hayashi and Gabrielle LePine, who had strong performances over the weekend. Hayashi took home the victory in the 100 butterfly, recording a time of 56.17. The Panthers also saw LePine finish first (1:03.95) in the 100 breaststroke and first (2:22.85) in the 200 breaststroke, kicking off her promising junior campaign.

Christiana Brooks started her sophomore season with a victory in the 100 freestyle, recording a time of 51.48. Brooks took home a third (23.64) place finish in the 50 freestyle as well.

The 100 backstroke saw two Panthers finish in the top five, with Brooks finishing third (56.77) and Mara Freeman touching the wall fourth (57.57).

Other impressive individual performances include Natalie DiProspero, who recorded a fourth (4:36.81) place finish in the 400 individual medley and Grace Hudson who grabbed fourth (1:57.60) in the 200 freestyle. Catelyn Fonda had an impressive showing as well, finishing second (2:06.74) in the 200 backstroke.

The team of Noelle Bryan, LePine, Hudson, and Brooks secured a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay, recording a time of 1:36.53. LePine and Brooks also competed in the 200 medley relay along with Freeman and Hayashi, with the squad taking home third (1:44.52) in the event.

"Moving forward there is a lot of work to be done both in the pool and in the weight room, but was fun to see our full team together and racing," Clements concluded.

Milwaukee will compete again on Saturday, Oct. 4 in the Klotsche Natatorium at the Alumni & Intersquad meet.
