MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Senior
Sara Bentley continues to shine as a Panther by rewriting the record books with a new pool record Saturday in a 172.5-127.5 win over Green Bay at the Klotsche Natatorium.
Nearly on this date two years ago, Bentley set the pool record in the 100-yard backstroke at 56.79 on January 30, 2016. Today, Bentley topped herself by setting the record to 55.89 – shaving off nearly a second off the original.
In addition to the pool record, Bentley won two individual events and helped the 400 medley relay to a win as well. The 400 medley relay comprised of Bentley,
Jenn Kordik,
Kady Ruemmele and
Shelby Rozeboom, began the day victorious timing in at 3:52.52. Later in the day, Bentley would go on to win the 200 backstroke (2:04.08) and 200 IM (2:06.96).
The day proved successful with strong performances from fellow classmates
Alena Bodnaruk,
Maggie Burns,
Adrienne DiFoggio,
Natalie O'Connell,
Kady Ruemmele,
Gabby Sanchez and
Sami Stelpflug as well.
O'Connell notched an event win, two second place finishes and a third finish in her last competitive meet at Klotsche. In the 100 breaststroke, O'Connell won with a time of 1:06.60, while taking second in the 200 breastroke at 2:24.63.
Adrienne DiFoggio edged out teammate O'Connell in the 200 breaststroke with a final time of 2:24.42.
Maggie Burns took the reins in the 200 butterfly and came in with a winning time of 2:09.79. She would also earn a third place finish in the 100 butterfly at 59.09.
Kady Ruemmele was part of the 400 medley relay team event win, and also raced to second and third place in the 100 butterfly (58.64) and 100 backstroke (59.22)
Gabby Sanchez and
Sami Stelpflug turned in strong performances on the day as well. Team captain Sanchez finished tied for third in the 200 backstroke (2:10.83) and fourth in the 100 backstroke (59.58), while Stelpflug rounded out the day in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 11:10.80.
In the diving,
Cassidy Pilo won both the 1-meter and 3-meter events. Pilo scored a 259.20 in the 1-meter and 268.12 in the 3-meter.
In all, Milwaukee wrapped up the dual winning 10-of-16 events.
Up next, Milwaukee close out their regular season at Stevens Point on Friday, Feb. 2. The Panthers are Pointers are set to begin at 5 p.m. at the UWSP Aquatics Center.
