CHICAGO, Ill. – The Milwaukee men's swim & dive team returned to competitive action and swam a tight race today at the Myers-McLoraine Pool against the University of Chicago. The Panthers fell just short of a match victory scoring in at 132 to Chicago's 152.
Milwaukee began the day with a second place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. Kyle Gerum, Jacob Fase, Kareem Nofel and Ahmed Ghallab finished a split second behind the Maroons (1:35.08) and touched the wall at 1:35.74.
The Panthers finished in 1-2-3 fashion in the 1000-yard freestyle race with freshman Colin Duffy leading the way. Duffy timed in at 9:49.25, while Andrew Grever (10.02.75) and Adriel Huerta (10:20.14) followed.
Other first event winner included Ben Cadel in the 100-yard backstroke, and Kareem Nofel in the 100-yard butterfly.
Cadel finished with 100 backstroke in 52.38, while fellow teammates Matt Jansen (52.97) and Nate Carlson (53.21) followed in third and fourth place, respectively.
In the 100-yard butterfly, Nofel finished with a fast time of 51.29 with Sam Salganik right behind him at 52.09 for third.
The Panthers excelled in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events.
Milwaukee took the top three spots in the 1-meter dive with Dakota Skendore leading the way with 302.25 points - good enough for a NCAA zone cut. Spencer Peronto (280.93) and Draven Feustel (276.53) finished right behind.
In the 3-meter dive, freshman Peronto took the lead winning with 295.13 points and Feustel claiming second with 272.63 points.
Milwaukee finally swims in familiar waters as the Panthers return to action Sat., January 20 at the Klotsche Natatorium. The Panthers will celebrate 11 seniors, nine of which serving on the women's side and two on the men's.
