CHICAGO, Ill. – The Milwaukee women's swimming and diving team came up short against conference opponent UIC Saturday at the Flames Natatorium in Chicago, Illinois.
The 400-yard medley relay team garnered a first place finish to start the meet.
Sara Bentley,
Jenn Kordik,
Kady Ruemmele and
Arica Smith swam in the relay in 3:53.01, while UIC's team finished inn 3:54.28.
In the 100 backstroke, UWM took the top-two spots with
Sara Bentley (55.97) leading the way.
Kady Ruemmele touched the wall at 59.59 for second. Bentley also won the 200 backstroke in 2:04.06.
In sprints,
Shelby Rozeboom swam a fast 50 free clocking in at 24.28, while
Arica Smith came in narrowly behind at 24.54 for a third place finish.
Addison Skogman and
Natalie O'Connell also earned valuable points for UWM with two second place finishes in their respective events. Skogman swam the 1000 freestyle in 10:40.26, and 500 freestyle in 5:12.25. In the 200 butterfly, O'Connell came in at 2:09.79 and 2:24.15 in the 200 breaststroke.
Freshman Ashley Thein had a solid performance in the 1-meter dive scoring 232.05 points for a second place finish.
The Panthers have a three-week break from competition before returning to the pool for a meet in Ohio for the Miami Invitational. The three-day meet begins Nov. 30 and concludes Dec. 2.
