MILWAUKEE –Colin Duffy debuted his freshman campaign with two event wins, helping Milwaukee's men's swimming and diving team swim to a competitive performance in a dual meet against D-II power house, Grand Valley State.
 
The freshman shined in the pool, winning the 1000-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle. Duffy's finish of 9:44.41 in the 1000 freestyle was a full six seconds ahead of the second place finisher and a finished a little over two seconds ahead of the second place finisher in the 500-yard freestyle.
 
Fellow freshman, Andrew Grever, opened with second and third place finishes in the 1000-yard and 500-yard freestyle. Grever touched the board at 9:52.67 in the 1000-yard, and finished with a time of 4:49.12 in the 500-yard freestyle events.
 
The Panthers collected valuable experience and other podium finishes in the dual meet. UWM kicked off the meet with second and third place finishes in the 200-yard medley relay with times of 1:34.54 and 1:38.04 – just a hair behind the Laker's final time of 1:33.01.
 
The quartet of Kyle Gerum, Jacob Fase, Kareem Nofel and Jasper Appleton proved successful as the four took the 200-yard freestyle relay stretching out with a 1:25.77 time over GVS at 1:25.89. The relay squad also finished in second place in the 200-yard medley relay with a final time of 1:34.54.
 
UWM is back in the waters at the annual All Wisconsin Showcase in Brown Deer, Wis. on Saturday, Oct. 21. The meet is set to begin at 1 p.m.
