Milwaukee Battles To Win In Chicago

Panthers remain undefeated against Maroons

CHICAGO – The Milwaukee men's swimming & diving team won seven events and used its depth for a hard-fought, 151-147 win over the University of Chicago Saturday afternoon from the Myers-McLoaraine Pool.

UWM started the day by taking the top-two spots in the 1000 freestyle. Max Gatzke came in first in 9:38.90, with Nic Halverson not far behind at 9:48.61 for second.

Yevgeniy Foster won a pair of events on the day. The junior first won the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:54.31 to just beat out UC's top swimmer. Foster later won on another touch out in the 100 fly, taking first in 51.31.

Milwaukee swept the diving competition on the day against the Maroons. Andres Villa (269.70) and Marcel Harris (269.48) went 1-2 on the one-meter board, with Draven Feustel (239.40) close behind in fourth.

Villa was at it once again on three-meter. The senior completed the sweep with an impressive showing, taking first with a score of 294.45 – more than 50 points ahead of the next finisher.

The Panthers continued to show their depth, taking the top-three spots in the 500 free. Tim Halverson claimed the win in 4:44.08. Gatzke was second in 4:44.58 and N. Halverson third in 4:45.55.

Freshman Jacob Barson, competing for the first time since breaking both freshman breaststroke records at the Iowa Hawkeye Invite to close out 2015, won the 100 breast. Barson touched the wall first in 59.53 to just touch out UC's top swimmer.

N. Halverson also earned a win on the day, taking the top spot in the unique 100 IM with a time of 53.50, another touch-out win for the Panthers on the day.

Milwaukee will close out its regular season in two weeks with a Jan. 30 dual meet against Green Bay from the Klotsche Natatorium.
