Panther Swimming & Diving Picked Second In Preseason Coaches’ Poll

Milwaukee women garner one first-place vote

MILWAUKEE - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's and women's swimming & diving teams were both picked to finish second overall in the inaugural Horizon League preseason coaches' poll, the league office announced today.

On the women's side, Milwaukee received 41 votes overall and one of the eight first-place votes. Oakland was picked as preseason favorites with 49 points and the other seven first-place nods.

Oakland was also chosen as the clear favorite on the men's side, grabbing six of the seven first-place votes with 36 points overall. Cleveland State nabbed the other first-place tally and finished tied with Milwaukee with 28 points overall.

Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own teams.

The Panthers enter the 2014-15 season with high hopes. The women's squad finished a very close runner-up at last year's league meet after claiming the Horizon League Championship the two years prior. Milwaukee's men's team finished somewhere other than on the podium for the first time in five years last season. After three-straight league titles and a runner-up showing in 2013, UWM will look to build off its fourth-place finish from last season.

Milwaukee kicks off its 2014-15 season Friday by hosting preseason favorite Oakland at the Klotsche Natatorium at 5 p.m.
