The University of Wisconsin Milwaukee men's and women's track and field teams combined to set 14 new personal records and just missed all-time top-10 performances in numerous events in the second and final day of the GVSU Big Meet hosted by Grand Valley State.
In all, UWM posted 12 top-10 finishes on the day and 37 total top-10 finishes overall at the two-day meet.
"Being a new meet for us, I didn't know exactly what to expect going in but overall things went very well," Milwaukee head coach Pete Corfeld said. "Day one went well and then turning around and running a whole second meet today was a little daunting, but the kids handled it well and we're happy how everything went."
Milwaukee runners had a strong showing across the board all day, specifically in the 3000m. On the men's side, junior Bobby Glotfelty took sixth with a personal-record time of 8:40.72. Younger brother Louis Glotfelty wasn't far behind, also posting a personal-best time of 9:14.99.
On the women's side, freshman Sammy Woller finished 10th overall with a season-best time of 10:41.03. Emily Hamilton was 12th with a PR 10:51.03, while Adriana Gutierrez also ran a personal record with a time of 12:08.36.
Freshman Chelsea Maxey had a pair of impressive runs on the day. In the 200m, she finished 10th in just her first time competing in the event with a time of 25.72 for ninth place in UWM history. Senior Calanetta Burrows came in 14th in the event with a PR of 25.92.
Then, Maxey took 14th in the 60m hurdles, crossing the line at 9.38
UWM had two of the top-seven finishers in the 400m as freshman Jordan Schmidt took third with a time of 49.23, just shy of the all-time top-10 list. Alex Delveaux (49.87) also finished seventh in the event.
Washington Farrington was fourth in the 60m, just missing his fourth-place time in school history by a faction of a second with a run of 7.01. Matt Ferry came in ninth in the event in his first run of the season with a time of 7.15 to just miss the all-time performance list.
Farrington also finished 17th in the 200m, finishing the race with a personal-record time of 22.59.
Toney Fisher took eighth in the 800m with a personal best run of 1:54.68, while Brian Klipstein also recorded a personal best with a time of 1:56.14 for 14th place in the race.
In the women's 800m, Erika Hanson crossed the line sixth with a personal-best 2:16.99 and Dana Clausen knocked an outstanding eight seconds off her personal record, finishing the race in 2:20.59.
In the mile, Joe Morgan finished 21st in 4:25.68 and Alex Francis took 38th in 4:34.45. Both times were personal bests.
Chantel McConville and Sarah Finer each finished in the top-10 in pole vault, just missing personal bests in the event.
Moriah Myles took eighth in shot put with a toss of 42-1 1/4 (12.83m).
On the men's side, freshman Jake Goodwiler had a personal best in weight throw, clearing 46-1 1/2 (14.06m).
The Panthers return home next Friday for their second and final home meet of the season. They will host their annual Panther Tune-Up at the Klotsche Center in preparation for the 2012 Horizon League Championships following the next weekend.
