The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's swimming team won eight events and improved to 3-1 overall in dual-meet action with a 107-88 win over Wheaton College Friday afternoon at the Klotsche Natatorium.
Milwaukee opened the night by using four freshmen to grab its first win of the night. Kelsey Abbas, Hannah Lucas, Hope Borland and Maggie Maxstadt combined to post a time of 4:05.81 in the 400 medley relay, more than three seconds better than the next group.
Senior Maggi Beck was up next, taking the top spot in the 1000 free with a time of 10:55.81, a season best.
Also in freestyle events, junior Diana Diel won the 50 free in 24.86 seconds, a full second faster than the rest of the field, and sophomore Anna Yontz touched the wall first in the 500 free with a winning time of 5:17.42. Lindsey Verhulst also claimed a victory for the Black and Gold, winning the 100 free at 53.08.
Liz Bishop claimed the first victory of her Panther career, taking the top spot in the 100 breaststroke at 1 minute, 8.67 seconds, more than a full second in front of the next finisher.
Senior Erika Pliner also won an event, taking first in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:00.20.
Milwaukee wrapped up the night by winning the 200 free relay in 1:42.58. Emily McClellan, Nicole Hutchins, Emily Dean and Kaela Ropson combined to post the winning time.
The Panthers are right back at it on Saturday, hosting UIC at the Klotsche Natatorium at 1 p.m.
