Post-Game Wrap-Up

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Nov. 13, 2010) - Danielle Robinson had 20 points, 11 assists and eight steals to lead No. 9/10 Oklahoma to a 76-59 victory over the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's basketball team Saturday afternoon at the Klotsche Center.

Milwaukee trailed by just five with 5:02 remaining before losing a second starter to fouls and conceding a 14-0 run down the stretch to provide for the final deficit.

"I thought (we) stepped up to the challenge and played with no fear," UWM head coach Sandy Botham said. "We came out very aggressive, attacked them and got to the bonus before they did. I think everyone saw the potential this team has, that we can play with one of the best teams in the country."

The game was the season-opener for both teams and marked the collegiate debut of Angela Rodriguez, who the Panthers with 16 points and seven rebounds. Sami Tucker also scored in double figures with 15 points, while Lindsay Laur added 11 points and three steals before fouling out.

Three more Sooners also got into double-digits, with Aaryn Ellenberg scoring 14 points and Joanna McFarland and Morgan Hook each scoring 13.

Milwaukee hung with Oklahoma through the first 35 minutes of the game, pulling within five at 62-57 with 5:02 remaining on a pair of Courtney Lindfors. Unfortunately for the Panthers, Lindfors was the team's second player to foul out a minute later and OU put the game out of reach.

Lindfors was not the only Panther battling foul trouble, as Laur was limited to 26 minutes before fouling out with 8:36 and UWM trailing by just three. Laur was the team's leading scorer and rebounder last season and was the lone upperclassmen in the starting lineup with freshmen Rodriguez and Lindfors and sophomores Tucker and Sammy Theut.

The Panthers shot 46.9 percent for the game, including 62.5 percent, to offset their turnovers for much of the game. They ended with 33, leading to 29 Sooner points. Milwaukee also battled inside, getting just 12 points in the paint, but getting to the free throw line 29 times, making 24. The team also made five of its 10 three-point tries on the day.

Oklahoma shot just 41.8 percent, but turned the ball over 12 less times and knocked down eight 3-pointers. The Sooners came away with 18 steals, but just a 31-28 advantage on the boards despite a sizable height advantage.

After conceding eight of the game's first 10 points, the Panthers rattled off an 11-0 run to take a five-point lead at 13-8 five and a half minutes into the game. Laur led the charge, scoring nine points over a three-minute span. OU would battle back, but UWM would once again take the lead, this time 24-23, on a Tucker layup with 7:07 to go before halftime.

The Sooners eventually built a nine-point lead in the opening frame, but led just 37-34 at halftime. It was much of the same in the first part of the second half. Milwaukee was within three at 56-53, but lost Laur about 30 seconds later to her fifth foul.

UWM returns to action Tuesday, traveling to Chicago to take on Chicago State. The Panthers and Cougars tip off at 7 p.m.
