VALPARAISO, Ind. - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's swimming team won each of the first eight events on the way to a 122-74 victory over Valparaiso University Saturday at the Athletics-Recreation Center. Senior Jake Kalinowski won two events to lead the way as the Panthers improved to 17-0 all-time against the Crusaders with the victory.

Five other swimmers claimed victories on the day, as well as the 200 medley relay team. Kalinowski won the 50 and 100 freestyles, touching the wall in 21.44 in the 50 and 47.85 in the 100.

"It was nice to see Jake get back on track and win a couple of events," UWM heads coach Kyle Clements said. "We also had some good showings by the freshmen, so it really shows off the depth of the team. The quality of the new kids we brought in is already paying off. With meets on back-to-back days, it was a long weekend, so to swim this well on the second day of it is very promising."

Sophomore Mike Schalla was second in the 50 free in 22.36, with UWM going 1-2-3 in the 100. Senior Dan Heraly was second in 48.51 and freshman Collin Heitfeld was third in 50.45.

Milwaukee took top three honors in three other events to lead a solid team effort. In the 1,000 freestyle, freshman Chris Jenkyns was first in 9:59.28, junior Jordan Diel second in 10:21.19 and junior Greg Wise third in 10:43.87.

In the 200 freestyle, junior Kyle Trelka led the way in 1:47.17. Sophomore David Dvorak was just behind in 1:47.61 and sophomore Cris Smith third in 1:49.11.

Sophomore Nathan Welchlin won the 100 butterfly in a time of 51.50. Freshman Sean Kimmitt was second (54.20) and Dvorak third (54.44).

Other event winners included junior Nathan Rahe in the 400 IM (4:22.03) and freshman Jeff Maxwell in the 100 backstroke (54.24).

Milwaukee will head back home and not compete again until the weekend, welcoming Boston College to the Klotsche Natatorium for its home opener. The teams will get action underway Friday afternoon at 4 p.m.
