MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Nov. 19, 2009) - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's basketball team overcame a 14-point first half deficit to lead late, but could not overcome 20 turnovers in falling to Wisconsin, 64-55, Thursday evening at the Klotsche Center.

The Panthers (2-1) led 48-47 with 8:30 to play, but did not hit a field goal until the 33-second mark during a 14-2 Badger (2-0) run late in regulation.

"I'm really proud of our kids," Milwaukee head coach Sandy Botham said. "To get down, battle back and take a lead against the Badgers (was great). The stuck with it and were able to battle back. It was turnovers for us. They pressured good, poked, got in there and got the ball on the floor and that was the difference in the game. They had eight more possessions than we did."

Junior Lindsay Laur had a game-high 19 points to go with seven rebounds and three steals to lead Milwaukee. Junior Jenilee Klomstad posted her first career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds while also blocking three shots.

Wisconsin had four players in double-figures, led by 15 points from Tara Steinbauer. Rae Lin D'Alie added 14, Taylor Wurtz scored 11 and Lin Zastrow chipped in 10.

UWM trailed by 14 in the first half before using an 11-0 run to make it a 28-25 game with just under three minutes remaining before halftime. The two teams traded baskets and headed into the break at 35-29 Wisconsin.

After the Badgers pushed their lead to 45-36 in the second half, Milwaukee once again responded, this time with a 12-2 run to take its first lead of the game at 48-47. The teams were then deadlocked at 49-49 before D'Alie kick-started Wisconsin's decisive 12-1 run. The senior guard hit two 3-pointers in a two-minute span to put UW ahead for good.

Milwaukee cooled off offensively in a defensive second half, shooting just 30.8 percent in the period to finish at 39.2 percent for the game. The team also committed 10 turnovers in each half, while forcing Wisconsin into just seven. The Badgers turned the 20 Panther miscues into 28 points, while UWM was only able to benefit from seven points off turnovers.

The Panthers, who had four players score in double-figures in each of their first two games this season, had two more players with at least eight points. Senior Jodie McClain finished with eight points and five assists and junior Anne Breland hit three 3's for nine points.

UWM did win the battle of the boards, 42-31, scoring 10 second-chance points and conceding just two. In addition to Laur and Klomstad's 17 combined rebounds, junior Ashley Imperiale added six.

The Panthers return to action Nov. 25, hosting Northern Illinois at the Klotsche Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
