EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (Nov. 15, 2009) - Four players scored in double-figures and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's basketball had a back-breaking 25-3 run in the first half to win convincingly, 85-60, over SIU Edwardsville, Sunday afternoon at the Vadalabene Center.

The Panthers are now 2-0 for the first time since 2001-02, while they are 2-0 with both games coming on the road for the first time in program history.

"This is a great win for us. SIUE is showing that they are an up-and-coming team. They are a pesky, defensive team," UWM head coach Sandy Botham said. "We got production from a lot of different people and that's along the lines of what we have been talking about, the balance in scoring and different people stepping up. We had that today."

Milwaukee trailed 16-15 with 8:47 in the first half before rattling off its decisive run. UWM scored the next 19 points of the game, while not allowing a Cougar field goal for 4:27 before a Courtney Kenner three-pointer. The Panthers answered back with the game's next six points to put the game out of reach at 40-19.

Senior Jodie MClain led UWM with 19 points and eight rebounds, while junior Jenilee Klomstad had a career-high 18 points to go with seven rebounds and three blocks. Juniors Ashley Imperiale and Anne Breland had 13 points apiece.

UWM led 42-24 at halftime and did not allow the Cougars closer than 19 the whole second half. The Panthers built their lead as high as 27 when freshman Katie Ehlen buried a three to make it 82-55 with 1:59 to play.

The Milwaukee offense had an efficient shooting game, hitting on 48.3 percent of its shots from the field and 9-of-16 from three-point range. The Panthers also shot over 80 percent from the free throw line (81.8 percent) for the second-straight game.

On defense, UWM limited the home team to just 26.5 percent shooting and just 4-of-24 from three-point range. After going just 2-for-6 from the free throw line in the first half, the Cougars got to the line 27 times in the second half, converting 18. In fact, after halftime, SIUE shot just 23.5 percent from the field, while scoring half its points from the charity stripe.
