MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Nov. 1, 2009) - Jadee Rooney hit a layup at the buzzer to lift UW-Parkside past the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's basketball team, 57-56, in an exhibition game Sunday afternoon at the Klotsche Center.

The Panthers overcame an eight point deficit at 50-42 with 11:16 remaining and took a 56-55 lead with 1:01 remaining on a pair of free throws by junior Ashley Imperiale. Both teams missed baskets, setting up the Rangers' final possession. Rooney was fouled with just under five seconds remaining, before taking the inbounds to the basket as time expired.

"It was a good test," UWM head coach Sandy Botham said. "We have a lot of youth out there, a lot of new people. This is a game that will really help us get better. That is the key of exhibitions, to expose areas that are our strengths and expose areas that we need to work on, they really did that."

Junior Lindsay Laur led Milwaukee with 14 points and seven rebounds, while junior Jenilee Klomstad chipping in 11 points, five boards and a pair of blocked shots. Sophomore Amanda Viehauser added eight points and Imperiale scored seven.

Brittany Hogen scored a game-high 17 points for Parkside, which returned all five starters from its 18-10 campaign a season ago. Rooney also reached double-digits with her game-winning shot, finishing with 11 points.

UWM led for much of the first half, fending off the Rangers at every turn. Seven-straight points gave the Panthers their largest lead of the game at 17-12 almost midway through the first half, but UWP hung close, thanks in large point to 12-straight Parkside points coming from Hogen. The visitors pulled within one just before the half, but a Klawitter three-pointer game Milwaukee the 32-28 lead heading into the half.

After a fast-break layup from freshman Sammy Theut, Parkside rattled off nine-straight points to seize the momentum in the game. It would eventually build its lead up to eight at 50-42 before UWM could bounce back. Laur converted a three-point play to start a 12-3 that Klomstad capped with a bunny to make it 54-53.

The Panther offense was fairly efficient with just 11 turnovers, but struggled to find its rhythm from the field, shooting just 35.9 percent. The team was also just 5-of-16 from three-point range in the game. UWP, on the other hand, shot 41.9 percent from the field and forged a 38-26 advantage on points in the paint. The Rangers also had a 44-35 edge on the boards, led by Amy Selk's game-high 11 rebounds.

The Panthers continue exhibition play Thursday, Nov. 5, hosting UW-Stevens Point. The regular season gets underway for Milwaukee at Nov. 13 at Evansville.
