VALPARAISO, Ind. -
Senior David Adams won twice to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's swimming & diving team to a 128.5-85.5 victory over Valparaiso University Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Panthers move to 15-0 all-time against the Crusaders and also improve to 8-4 in dual meets on the year - their most dual victories since recording eight during the 1997-98 season.
Adams paved the way, winning the 1000 freestyle in a time of 10:12.79 while also topping the field in the 500 freestyle in 4:57.29.
In addition to Adams' pair of wins, junior Ed Lichinsky, freshmen Kyle Trelka and Nathan Rahe and the 200 freestyle relay team all posted wins on the day.
"David Adams did a real nice job for us today," UWM head coach Erica Janssen said. "We swam some off events that we did not end up winning, but we wanted to give some of the team a break from some of their normal events before heading to the invitational in two weeks. We were not at our best today but still came out on top, so we are very pleased about the result."
Lichinsky came through with a win in the 100 backstroke, touching the wall in 55.47 for the win. Freshman Brady Huemann was right behind in second in 56.34.
Trelka won the 200 IM in 2:00.90, leading a 1-2-3 Milwaukee finish in the race. Rahe was second (2:02.60) and fellow freshman Jordan Diel third in 2:02.60.
Rahe won the 100 butterfly, coming in at 54.37. Freshman Greg Wise was second, clocking in at 54.70, with Rahe getting the touch-out victory.
The final victory came from the 200 free relay squad that closed out the meet in a victorious time of 1:28.11.
UWM received several second-place efforts in the meet to help out the team win. Junior Jeremy Waldhart took second in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.69), sophomores Dan Heraly in the 200 free (1:49.79), Jake Kalinowski in the 50 free (21.75) and Nick DeWitt on the one-meter diving board (186.35 points). Freshman Nolan Sinkler rounded out the list with a second-place effort in the 100 free in a time of 49.46.
Milwaukee closes out the semester slate with a weekend road trip to the Falcon Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn., December 5-6. The meet is hosted by UW-River Falls.
