MILWAUKEE - Junior Jeremy Waldhart and sophomore Dan Heraly each won two events Friday night to highlight the home opener for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's swimming & diving team. The Panthers also received a first-place swim from freshman Jordan Diel, but fell to Wright State University, 168-132, at the Klotsche Natatorium.

"I felt we really did a great job despite the loss and it was a group effort for us tonight," UWM head coach Erica Janssen said. "Wright State is the two-time defending league champ and had to put up a lot of good times to beat us. This will be a learning experience for us and the important thing is that we continue to get better from meet to meet."

Waldhart swept the backstroke events, topping the field in the 100 in 53.56 and in the 200 in a time of 1:54.03. He also came in second in the 200 IM in a time of 1:59.22.

Heraly won both the 500 and 1000 freestyle, touching the wall in 9:44.96 in a convincing victory in the 1000 and in a time of 4:43.45 in the 500.

"Dan Heraly stepped up for us and did an outstanding job in the distance events," Janssen said. "Jordan Diel and Jeremy Waldhart had some great swims on the night as well."

Diel earned the victory in the 200 butterfly in a time of 1:57.20 while also contributing with a second-place showing in the 100 fly in 51.81.

Sophomore Jake Kalinowski was the top UWM finisher in the sprints, placing second in the 100 free in a time of 48.296 and just missing a win in the 50 free. His time of 21.53 was touched-out by WSU's T.J. Collins, who won in 21.33.

Freshman Nolan Sinkler also helped out with a near-win in the 200 free, placing second in 1:45.78 to winning clocking of 1:45.31.

In the diving events, sophomore Nick DeWitt led the way with a second-place showing on the one-meter board with a 243.75 point total. On the three, freshman Jake Koll was Milwaukee's top finisher in third with 225.30 points. WSU's Corey Johnson (3-m) and Caleb Nettleton (1-m) took home first.

The team will not have much time to rest, as it is back in action tomorrow morning, hosting Wheaton College in an 11 a.m. dual meet at the Klotsche Natatorium.
