MADISON, Wis. - Senior Andrew Belton, junior Jeremy Waldhart and freshman Jordan Diel all contributed second-place finishes to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's swimming & diving team against the University of Wisconsin Friday night at the UW Natatorium.

The Badgers won each event in topping the Panthers, 156-70, in a meet that was the season opener for both squads.

"I was still happy with the results," UWM head coach Erica Janssen said. "We did a lot better than we did last year at this point in the season. We have a long year ahead of us and we can learn a lot from this meet."

Belton placed second in the 100 freestyle with a time of 48.65, Waldhart was second in the 100 backstroke in 53.34 and Diel's runner-up time was 52.39 in the 100 butterfly. Waldhart also placed third in the 200 IM in a time of 1:58.47.

"We did have a lot of very good swims tonight," Janssen said. "It's good to be able to face such a high-level of competition in our first meet and see where we are at."

Sophomore Jake Kalinowski took third in both the 50 freestyle (22.07) and the 100 free (48.69). In the diving events, sophomore Nick DeWitt was the top finisher for UWM, taking fourth on both boards.

The men's team will be off until the end of the month, next competing October 31. That day, Milwaukee starts the Horizon League slate when they host Wright State. The Panthers and Raiders are scheduled for a 5 p.m. start that Friday at the Klotsche Natatorium.
