MACOMB, Ill. - Seniors Chase Gravengood and Jeremy Seibel and junior Robby Leibold won two events each to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's swimming & diving team to a 158-80 victory over Western Illinois Saturday afternoon.

Both relay teams also posted victories as the Panthers won all 11 swimming events at the meet in their first action of the semester.

"Everybody is swimming tough," UWM head coach Dave Griffore said. "That is what makes our men's team so dangerous ... we are solid from top to bottom. The goal is to win every event at a meet and the kids went out and raced hard."

Gravengood won the 200 IM in 1:57.41 and also took home top honors in the 200 butterfly in a time of 1:55.95.

Seibel, swimming for the first time this season, was in top form, earning victories in the 200 freestyle in 1:46.03 and also in the 200 breaststroke in 2:10.70.

Leibold continued his strong campaign, opening the meet with a win in the 1000 freestyle in 9:37.25 and also finishing first in the 500 freestyle in 4:48.87. He also placed second in the 200 fly.

Other individual winners included junior Andrew Belton, sophomore Jeremy Waldhart and freshman Jake Kalinowski.

Belton won the 50 freestyle, with UWM swimmers taking the top three spots all within forty-three hundredths of a second. Belton touched the wall in 22.31, sophomore Sam Parent was second in 22.69 and senior David Yugo third in 22.74.

Waldhart won the 200 backstroke in 1:54.10, while Kalinowski earned the victory in the 100 freestyle in 48.87.

Milwaukee had the top three finishers in more than one event on the day. In addition to Leibold winning the 1000 free, freshmen Bill McCarty (season-best 9:46.15) was second and Dan Heraly (9:57.44) third.

In the 200 IM, Waldhart placed second to Gravengood in 1:59.23, with freshman Matt Kluczinske third in a time of 2:01.71.

Kalinowski was right behind Seibel in the 200 free in 1:47.77, while senior Tyler Jefferson - who was also making his first appearance of the season - took third in 1:48.82.

Lastly, McCarty took second in the 100 free in 48.68, with Yugo third in 50.08.

Both relay teams also posted wins, with Belton, Yugo, Parent and McCarty teaming up for the 400 free relay crown in 3:15.38.

Jefferson, Seibel, Gravengood and Kalinowski opened the meet with a win in the 400 medley relay in a time of 3:33.09.

"It was great to see Jeremy (Seibel) and Tyler (Jefferson) back in the lineup and a chance to race," Griffore said. "They were both excited to be there and swam very well."

UWM closes out the regular season next week, hosting UW-Green Bay at the Klotsche Natatorium on Saturday. The Panthers and Phoenix hit the pool at 1 p.m.
