MACOMB, Ill. - Sophomore Jeremy Seibel and both relay teams helped lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's swimming & diving team to a close 125-112 victory over Western Illinois on Saturday afternoon. The victory is UWM's fourth-consecutive in the series.

"It was a team effort today," head coach Dave Clark said. "Four different swimmers accounted for the five individual winners we had. A lot of supporting people got put in lead roles today."

Seibel won two events, placing first in both the 200 IM and the 500 freestyle. His time of 2:02.74 was a season-best and took top honors in the 200 IM, where he edged out freshman teammate Robby Leibold (2:02.85) for first. Seibel's time of 4:51.78 in the 500 free topped the field by almost two seconds.

The 400 medley relay team of junior Kyle Palmer and sophomores Chase Gravengood, Tyler Jefferson and David Yugo finished in 3:38.49, well ahead of Western Illinois' second-place time of 3:41.63. In the 400 freestyle relay, senior Ryan Frohmader, Jefferson, Yugo and Seibel were victorious by over eight seconds to secure the team victory in a time of 3:14.20.

"The relay teams really helped us get over the top," Clark said. "We needed victories in every event we could get for us to win this meet."

Gravengood also added a victory in the 200 freestyle, winning in a time of 1:46.70. Another winner for the team was sophomore Ross Bittner, claiming a victory in the 100 butterfly in a time of 55.99.

The Panthers placed well in the 1000 free, finishing second through fourth, with freshman David Adams (second), junior Karl Winderl (third) and senior Joe Vermeulen (fourth) taking part. Another good showing for UWM was in the 100 free, where Jefferson took second (48.77, touched out by the winning time of 48.49), Yugo third (50.67) and sophomore Paul Lewis (51.59) fourth.

In the diving events, senior Jeff Jasinowski placed first on the three-meter board and second on the one-meter. His 323.60 points on the three-meter board was his second-highest score of the season in the event.

The UWM men will be off for a week before taking part in their final regular season dual of the season when they host UW-Green Bay February 10.
