MILWAUKEE - Teri Huff scored a team-high 14 points and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee forced 30 University of Wisconsin-Parkside turnovers en route to an easy 71-45 exhibition win in women's basketball action here Thursday (Nov. 11). Milwaukee led 33-22 at the half and outscored UWP by 15 in the second half to win its exhibition opener. UWP remains at 2-1 on the regular season as this game did not count towards its official record.

"UW-Parkside is a great test for us," UWM head coach Sandy Botham said. "It was a close game early but we were able to pull away. We forced a lot of chaos against a solid opponent."

Milwaukee opened the game with a Huff three-point play at the 19:46 mark. The two teams traded baskets and UWP took its third, and last lead of the game, 9-8, on a Jen Braier jumpshot at the 15:01 mark. UWM scored the next eight points and grabbed a 16-9 lead on an Amanda Cook free throw at the 11:17 point in the half. UWP cut the lead to four, 19-15, with 9:03 remaining before back-to-back three-pointers by Kimberly Becker and Molly O'Brien gave UWM a 25-15 cushion with 6:20 remaining.

Parkside cut the lead to nine on a Sammy Kromm free throw at the 1:35 mark but two more free throws by Cook with 1:01 left gave Milwaukee the 33-22 halftime cushion. UWM shot 47.6% from the floor in the first half while holding the Rangers to 32.3% marksmanship while forcing 13 turnovers.

The two teams traded buckets early into the second half before a 12-0 run over a 6:40 stretch pushed the lead to 51-28 on two Anne Witte free throws with 12:20 left. The Panthers continued to push and grabbed a 62-36 lead on a Huff layin with 6:16 to play. Both teams cleared the benches the last four minutes of the game as Milwaukee coasted to the 26-point victory.

Milwaukee shot 41.3% from the game and connected on seven three-pointers in 20 attempts. Parkside did win the rebounding battle 37-29 but UWM handed out 14 assists and registered 18 steals on the game. In addition to Huff's 14 points, Becker added 11 points while Witte and Kiley Johnson added nine apiece. Sammy Kromm led all players with 19 points on eight-of-11 shooting.

UWM will play its second on final exhibition on Monday (Nov. 15) when Wisconsin AAU comes to town for a 7:00 p.m. contest at the Klotsche Center.
