ROCHESTER, Mich. - Senior Michael Belting won two events and swam with a first-place relay for the second consecutive day to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's swimming & diving team to a 1-1 record at Oakland University, falling to the host Grizzlies, 148.5-93.5, and topping Wayne State University, 151-90, Saturday afternoon in Rochester. With the decisions, the Panthers stay even on the season in dual meets at 2-2.

"Between last night and today, every one of our men had a couple good swims," head coach Dave Clark said. "We put some good miles on our guys (traveling after competing last night in Milwaukee) and they responded well. The further we got into the meet, the better they got."

Belting topped the field in both the 1000 and 500 freestyle events, posting a time of 9:52.26 in the 1000 free. In the 500 free event, he touched the wall in 4:47.11 with freshman Jeremy Seibel tying for fourth in 4:56.02. In the evening's final event, Belting teamed with junior Ryan Frohmader and freshmen Chase Gravengood and Tyler Jefferson to win the 400 free relay with a time of 3:13.38.

"Our (400 free) relay was similar to last night," Clark said, "but they were a bit faster tonight. It's good to see that they are responding this well."

Gravengood posted a pair of top-four finishes in individual events on the evening, taking second in the 200 butterfly and fourth in the 200 individual medley. In the 200 fly, he completed the distance in 1:58.33 after swimming the 200 IM in 1:59.78. Another member of the 400 free relay, Frohmader, also had a good night, taking third in the 200 backstroke (2:02.79) and fourth in the 200 free (1:49.82).

In the 200 breastroke three Panthers finished among the top five, while two more were among the top three in the 50 free. Junior Kyle Fyock led the way in both events, taking second in the 50 free in 22.21, ahead of Jefferson in third with a time of 22.36. Fyock was third in the 200 breast in 2:20.22, with Seibel in fourth in 2:23.42 and sophomore Kyle Palmer in fifth at 2:23.85.

UWM also had good finishes in the 100 free and the 400 medley relay. Senior Adam Steffes had a hand in both, taking fourth in the 100 free with a time of 50.82 and swimming with the second-place relay. Joining him on the 400 medley relay, which finished in 3:45.83, was Jefferson, Palmer and freshman Ross Bittner.

Junior Jeff Jasinowski led the Black & Gold divers, taking third in the one-meter event and fourth from the three-meter board. In one-meter diving, Jasinowski scored 214.75, while sophomore Joel Mauer took fourth with 200.55. Jasinowski posted 181.80 points in three-meter diving.

"We had kind of an off day today, nothing spectacular, but had some good dives," diving coach Todd Hill said. "They had a good weekend last weekend, and are ahead of where they were last year."

Milwaukee returns to action with a dual meet next Saturday (Nov. 6) at UIC. The Panthers and Flames hit the pool at 2 p.m.
