EVANSTON, Ill. - Senior Michael Belting and freshman Chase Gravengood once again paced the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's swimming & diving team, but it was not enough, as the Panthers fell to Northwestern University, 149-91, Friday night in Evanston. The dual meet was the first of the season for both teams.

"If they can swim well, Northwestern has the potential to be a top-10 team nationally," head coach Dave Clark said. "If you consider that, we did well tonight."

Belting posted a second-place finish in the 500 freestyle after taking third in the 200 free earlier in the night. His 500 time was 4:47.15, while he touched the wall in 1:46.34 during the 200. Gravengood swam consecutive events, taking third in the 200 individual medley and second in the 200 butterfly. In the 200 IM, he swam a time of 1:58.72, but his time of 1:59.16 in the 200 fly was third-fastest as a NU swimmer exhibitioned.

"Chase did real well for us," Clark said. "A disadvantage he faces is that his top two events fall back-to-back in a dual meet. That means his second events doesn't go as well."

Juniors Ryan Frohmader and Kyle Fyock also chipped in top-three finishes on the night. Frohmader swam to a second-place finish in the 200 backstroke, touching the wall in 2:01.87 and Fyock posted a time of 22.43 in taking third in the 50 free.

Belting, Gravengood, Frohmader and senior Adam Steffes also combined to place second in the 400 free relay, completing the distance in 3:17.62.

Northwestern has said diving results are not available at this time. Results from both the one- and three-meter diving events will be posted on uwmpanthers.com when they are released.

Milwaukee's weekend in Chicago continues, as the Panther swimmers return to Northwestern for the Northwestern Relays on Sunday at noon. The UWM divers head to the UIC Invitational, where they will get underway at 10 a.m.
