Men's Swimmers Fall To Badgers And Phoenix

MADISON, Wis. - Josh Baseheart won the men's 100 freestyle and diver Jeff Jasinowski won on 3m to come home with the only victories in the UWM men's swimming and diving team's annual meet with Wisconsin and UW-Green Bay Friday evening in Madison. The Panthers fell to the Badgers by a 115-84 count, while falling to UW-Green Bay by a 132-98 margin.

Baseheart just touched out Wisconsin's Adam Mania at the wall by .02 seconds to claim victory in the 100, finishing in 45.85. Jasinowski, meanwhile, posted the other victory on the 3m board with 189.35 points. Jasinowski also was second on 1m with a score of 174.30.

The Badgers traditionally take the top two places in the annual meet, and this season was no exception, as UW held the top two spots in most of the early events. Michael Belting picked up a third-place finish in the men's mile, finishing in 16:42.06, while Peter Clark was fourth in the 200 free in 1:45.26. Jason Procto was fifth in the same event in 1:45.37. Baseheart also claimed a third-place finish in the 50 freestyle in 21.01, with Tim Watt finishing sixth in the 50 in 22.36. Watt also joined Baseheart in the top five of the men's 100 free, finishing third in 48.44. Rob Vergeer wound up fifth in the 200 butterfly in 1:59.12, while Procto added a second-place finish in the 200 backstroke in 1:53.30. Belting also added a second-place mark in the 500 freestyle in 4:46.26. Mac Carlson also turned in a top-five finish, ending up fifth in the 200 breaststroke in 2:19.56.

The Panthers are off until Feb. 26, when they begin the Horizon League Championships in Cleveland, Ohio.
