Panther Swimming Falls To Northwestern and Toledo

EVANSTON, Ill. - The men's and women's swimming and diving teams both dropped a pair of decisions Friday evening against Northwestern and Toledo in Evanston, Ill. The men's team lost to Northwestern by a 172-55 margin and fell to Toledo by a score of 176-54, while the women's team dropped to the Wildcats 160-80 and was downed by the Rockets by a 152-88 count.

Junior Josh Baseheart had the top finish for the Panthers on the day, finishing second in the men's 100 freestyle. Baseheart's time in the event was 46.36, finishing just .07 behind Northwestern's Tony Swanson.

Sophomore Jason Procto also had a top-three finish for the men's team, taking third in the 200 backstroke. Procto finished in 1:56.64.

The Panther divers did well for the women's side, with UWM taking third in each of the diving events. On the 1m board, junior Becky Rubel took third, finishing with 215.05 points. Fellow junior Hannah Burgard took third on the 3m board, finishing with 207.50 points. One bright spot for the Panthers was freshman Erin Blemberg finishing fourth in both diving events in her first collegiate competition.

Junior Sarah Walby also had a third-place finish in the 1000 freestyle, finishing in 11:08.05, for the top swimming performance on the day for the Panthers.

Milwaukee will return to action Sunday afternoon when they return to Evanston for the Northwestern Relays. That meet is slated to start at noon.
