September 12, 2026

GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Milwaukee men's cross country team earned fourth place at the fifth annual Phoenix Open, hosted by Green Bay at the Shorewood Cross Country Course.

Cullen Boyle once again led the way for the Panthers, who finished with 92 points as a team. The Mequon, Wis. native notched his second top-10 finish in as many weeks, completing the 8K course in 25:56.7 to take 10th among a strong field of competition.

Will Whiteis improved on his placement from last season at this event by finishing in 19th, turning in a time of 26:19.1. Harper Fahey followed closely behind throughout the entirety of the race, earning 23rd place.

Alex Anewenter and Talon Gamez rounded out the top-5 scorers for Milwaukee Saturday afternoon, finishing in 26th and 36th, respectively. Anewenter sliced off nearly 30 seconds from his performance in 2025 at the Phoenix Open—exiting Saturday with a 8K time of 26:37.1.

"On the men's side, it's all about confidence," head coach Andrew Basler said. "This group of men are already above and beyond where they were last year in this area. We will continue to see their performances build to match their confidence as the season progresses."

Nelson Mitchell made his collegiate debut, earning 55th with a time of 27:36.6. Sam Blasyck, Alex Lopez-Saucedo, Nathan Powley and Will Perez each raced on Saturday as well.

Milwaukee will enjoy a week off from competition before returning to action Friday, Sept. 25. The Panthers are slated to race in Milwaukee for the first and only time this season, participating in Marquette's Jim Allen Classic. The men's race is set to start at 2:00 p.m. CT from Veterans Park.
