Milwaukee Posts Strong Showing Across Two Meets Saturday

MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee women's track & field team competed in day three of the Gibson Invitational, hosted by Indiana State, as well as the Warrior Invitational, hosted by Wisconsin Lutheran Saturday.

The Panthers secured the top two spots in the long jump (invite), with Anna Szepieniec taking home the title after her 6.09-meter leap. Nevia Levenhagen recorded a runner-up finish, jumping an outdoor career-best 5.85 meters.
 
Also shining in the field events was Olivia VanZeeland who won her third straight high jump outing. The senior cleared 1.70 meters to win the event. Macy Woodward also cleared 1.70 meters to finish tied for runner-up. Her career-best effort currently ranks tied-seventh in the Panther record books for the event.
 
The team of Katie Burns, Victoria Evtimov, Angelica Refinski, and Isabel Roloff crossed the line first in the 4x100-meter relay, clocking a time of 46.51.
 
Burns ran a career-best time of 24.38 in the 200-meter dash to finish fourth. Her mark ranks sixth in the program record books for the event. In the 400-meter run, Burns was the top Panther finisher, taking home third place (55.12).
 
Three Black & Gold sprinters cracked the top-20 in the 100-meter dash, with Roloff leading the charge. She finished 12th (12.20), followed by Refinski in 18th (12.35), and Evtimov in 20th (12.39).
 
Rachel Helm was the top Panther finisher in the 1500-meter run, crossing the line third with a time of 4:40.96.
 
In the 100-meter hurdles, Victoria Spagnola ran a career-best 14.37 effort to finish eighth. Brooke Crosby was not far behind, ending ninth with a time of 14.38.
 
Three Panthers cleared 3.59 meters in the pole vault, with Hailey Soriaga securing sixth, Ella Laughbaum nabbing eighth, and Emma Johnson claiming ninth.
 
WARRIOR INVITATIONAL
 
Lilly Wepking delivered the second-best prelim time in the 100-meter dash, running a 12.46 to advance to the finals.
 
Winning the long jump was Adaline Powell, who cleared 5.31 meters in her first long jump action of the outdoor season.
 
Claudia Conner turned in a runner-up finish in the shot put. Her 11.04-meter effort was just 0.08 meters off the champion's mark. Powell added a third-place performance in the event (10.64 meters).
 
Conner also competed in the hammer throw, where she produced a personal-best outing of 41.34 meters to secure third.

Milwaukee prepares for another dual-meet week, with select athletes traveling to Louisville's Jim Freeman/Clark Wood Open Apr. 24-25, while others will compete in Whitewater's Drake Alternative Friday, Apr. 24.
