MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee women's track & field team competed at a pair of meets Friday: Grand Valley State's Big Meet Friday and DePaul's Blue Demon Alumni Classic.
BLUE DEMON ALUMNI CLASSIC
"We took a small group of jumpers down to DePaul and I thought that we had a lot of positive results," said head coach
Andrew Basler.
"The performer of the meet was definitely
Nevia Levenhagen, who had a huge jump in the long jump," said Basler. "It would have been a school record had
Anna Szepieniec not broken the record earlier this year. Levenhagen also had a personal best in the triple jump which was awesome to see."
Levenhagen thrived in the long jump, winning the event with her 6.18-meter leap. She currently sits second in the Panther record books, with the top effort held by teammate Szepieniec, and second in the Horizon League for the event. Levenhagen also finished sixth in the triple jump with her personal-best 11.64-meter performance.
In the 60-meter hurdles, Szepieniec secured sixth in the 28-runner field, clocking a time of 8.60.
Kallie Volk turned in a personal-best effort in the event with her 9.08 outing.
"All the high jumpers either had a season best or a lifetime best bar, which is always good to see," added Basler.
Alexandria Simmons and
Macy Woodward finished in the top-10 in the high jump, both clearing 1.60 meters.
"This meet definitely gives us some great momentum heading into one more weekend of competition at our home meet before we head to the Horizon League Championships," concluded Basler.
BIG MEET FRIDAY
"Our sprint and distance squads took full advantage of the great competition at the Big Meet Friday hosted by GVSU coming away with 13 personal records and two season bests," said assistant coach
Priscilla Schultz.
In Allendale, Mich.,
Rachel Helm shined in the 800-meter run. Helm placed third with her career-best 2:13.03 effort, which currently ranks her second in the program record books and first in the Horizon League for the event.
Isabel Roloff turned in a personal-best performance in the 60-meter dash, completing the event in 7.71.
In the 200-meter dash,
Leah Handshoe finished 12th with her career-best outing of 25.56.
Taylor Thimmesch ran a 56.71 in the 400-meter dash which slots her ninth in the Panther record books for the event. She also turned in a personal-best effort of 25.72 in the 200-meter.
