MILWAUKEE – On Wednesday, Milwaukee women's basketball head coach
Kyle Rechlicz announced that
Micayla Silas will join the team beginning in the 2025-26 season.
Â
Silas was named an All-American by both the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) this past season while playing for Cochise Community College in Douglas, Ariz.
Â
Originally from Oneida, Wis., where she attended Seymour High School, Silas moved to Arizona and played for Mesa High School for two seasons. She then committed to Cochise, where she played for the Apaches the past two seasons.
Â
"We are thrilled to be bringing Micayla back home to Wisconsin," commented Rechlicz. "She is a crafty scorer who is overly competitive. She is bringing experience from a winning junior college program which is invaluable. Micayla is a great fit for us both on and off the court."
Â
This past season at Cochise, Silas led the team in scoring at 14.7 points per game while shooting 34.2 percent from the field and 28.8 percent from three-point range. Fifty-nine of her 154 made field goals this past season came from beyond the arc, contributing to a team-high 440 points. She helped the team to a 20-win season, including a 12-5 record in Arizona Community College Athletic Conference play.
Â
As a freshman in 2023-24, Silas averaged 7.4 points per game and totaled 251 points. The Apaches had a 26-win season and advanced to the NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship after winning a regional title against Eastern Arizona.
Â
A two-sport athlete in high school, Silas competed in both basketball and cross country for the Mesa High School Jackrabbits. She was a Second Team All-East Regional basketball player and a two-time cross country team MVP. Silas graduated with academic honors and a 3.75 GPA.
Â
Silas joins
Tierney Madigan, who announced her intention to join the Panthers earlier this month. While the two most recent signees join
Elizabeth Favret, Madison Fitzgibbon, and Olivia Olson, who signed with Milwaukee earlier in the signing period.
