LA CROSSE, Wis.- The Milwaukee women's track & field team was back competing at the Ashton May Invite hosted by UW-La Crosse on Saturday.
Katie Burns was tremendous for the Panthers winning two events on the day.

Burns claimed her first victory of the meet in the 100m dash with a time of 12.15. She followed it up in the 200m dash with a career-best finish of 24.79 to cap her impressive outing.

Victoria Evtimov was right behind Burns in both events, coming in third in the 100m dash at 12.19, while finishing in 25.09 take second in the 200m dash.

"On the track, Katie put together two really strong races setting personal bests in both," said head coach
Andrew Basler. "Victoria competed very well in both of those races as well."

Anna Szepieniec had an impressive day of her own, earning the top spot in the long jump with a leap of 5.85m. Szepieniec also competed in the 100m hurdles where she reached the finish in 14.24 to wrap up a runner-up showing.

"The jumps went really well for us today," Basler added. "We either won or got a great performance in all of those events."

Milwaukee had two top-three finishers in the high jump,
Kallie Volk led the way with the first-place finish after clearing 1.69m.
Alexandria Simmons hit a jump of 1.64m to finish strong in third place.

"I was excited about the high jump," Basler continued saying. "For the second straight week Kallie was looking at a bar that would get her to the first round of nationals, and
Alexandria Simmons had a very nice career best."

The winning continued with
Morgan Pilate in the triple jump, she reached a distance of 11.86m to lock up the event.

Hailey Soriaga cleared 3.66m in the pole vault, the performance tying her for eighth on the school's outdoor leaderboard.

As a team the Panthers finished second out of the nine programs competing with 100 points.

Milwaukee will be split next weekend, with a group travelling to Durham, N.C. for the Duke Invitational running from Apr. 10-12 at Morris Williams Stadium. Another group will be making the trip across Milwaukee for the Marquette Invitational on Apr. 11 at 1:00 p.m at the Shimek Track & Field Facility.
