Lorenz Breaks Program 50 Freestyle Record at Day One of Wisconsin First Chance Meet

MADISON, Wis.- The Milwaukee swimming & diving teams completed day one of the Wisconsin First Chance Meet Friday. The highlight of the day for the Panthers was Ben Lorenz breaking the school record in the 50 freestyle. 
 
Lorenz, touching the wall in 19.97, takes down the previous record set in 2009 by Jake Kalinowski at 20.12. Lorenz's effort was enough to earn him third place in the event. 
 
On the women's side of the 50 freestyle, Brielle Laube led the way for Milwaukee finishing in sixth with a time of 23.91. 
 
On a day where the Panthers had 18 athletes competing, Allie Buytendorp opened the day in the 500 freestyle, claiming third place after finishing in 5:06.44.  Sasha Gesner was close behind her in the fourth spot, recording a time of 5:07.14. For the men, Emery Reszka took second in the event at 4:42.03. 
 
In the 200 Individual Medley, Bella Sponseller represented Milwaukee with a 2:09.82 to place her fourth. 
 
The Panthers will be back tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. for the second session of the meet, before finishing the weekend with the last session beginning at 4:00 p.m.
