Thomas Wins Three Events to Lead Panthers Over Pointers

STEVENS POINT, Wis.- The Milwaukee women's swimming & diving team won all 13 swimming events on their way to a 198-68 victory over Stevens Point in its final dual meet of the season. Erika Thomas highlighted the effort by winning three times.
 
With the win, the Panthers will finish the season 4-1 in dual meets.
 
"Great way to end our dual meet season. Going into these late season meets on the road you never know how they are going to go," said head coach Kyle Clements. "I was very happy to see that the overall result carried over from last weekend."
 
Thomas picked up the first individual win of the night in the 200 freestyle, finishing in 1:54.52. She then earned a second one in the 200 individual medley when she touched the wall in 2:08.72. Thomas completed the hat-trick in the 500 freestyle after reaching the finish in 5:07.69.
 
Sweeping the backstroke events was Mara Freeman, starting by taking the 100 with a time of 58.26. In the 200, she outswam the competition to a time of 2:09.28.
 
In the 100 breaststroke, Gabrielle LePine continued her season-long stretch of winning every meet she's competed in, this time posting a time of 1:02.97. She followed that up in the 200 breaststroke, winning again at 2:20.65.
 
Carly Plate took the crown in the 50 freestyle, managing to just edge out teammate Janelle Schulz (24.44) with a 24.33 finish. Schulz did manage to come out on top in the100 freestyle by posting a time of 53.85.
 
The top spot in the 200 butterfly belonged to Natalie DiProspero who turned in a time of 2:06.50. Maddi Hayashi rounded out the individual winners in the 100 butterfly with a 58.63 performance.
 
The meet opened and closed with relay wins for Milwaukee, starting with the 200 medley (1:46.17), and closing with the 400 freestyle (3:36.39).
 
"We have done nothing but pace and fine tune our championship events over the last month, and now it's time to rest" finished Clements. "The next time we race these events they will be even better."

The Panthers will be at the Wisconsin First Chance Meet Feb. 7-8 in Madison, Wis. The meet will be the final tune-up for the team before the Horizon League Championships Feb. 19-22.
