LOUISVILLE – Golden Cotton and
Anthony Campbell each broke a program record as the Milwaukee track & field program competed at the second day of the Clark Wood Invitational in Louisville, Kentucky.
Cotton broke the Milwaukee 100m record twice on the day. First running a time of 10.40 seconds in the preliminary heats, then following that with a 10.29 mark in the finals, earning fourth place in the race.
Campbell smashed the program record in the long jump, earning fourth with a leap of 7.77m (25'6"), more than five inches past the previous mark.
"I don't recall there being a better overall regular season weekend for our program than what we saw the last three days," head coach
Andrew Basler said. "Success is contagious, so once we got things started, the season bests, personal bests, top-ten marks, and program records kept on coming."
"The time that Golden (Cotton) ran got into the NCAA West Prelims last year, so he is sitting in a position to make the postseason," Basler continued. "Over in the sandpit, Anthony (Campbell) took his second jump out to 7.77m to break the school record and most likely punch his own ticket to the NCAA West Prelims."
Dane Nelson grabbed third place in the 110m hurdles, running the sixth fastest time in program history at 14.19 seconds.
Chris Hudnall joined him in the race, finishing sixth with a time of 14.37, the eighth fastest in program history.
Jaelyn Reeves-Lile ran the third fastest 100m in Milwaukee history in prelims, recording a time of 10.58 seconds. The freshman just missed qualifying for the final heat, finishing in 11
th.
Carter Eckhoff ran his way onto Milwaukee's 1500m list, recording the seventh fastest time in program history at 3:51.99 and finishing sixth in the race.
Zac Schmidt and
Caleb Henry tied for sixth in the 400m, recording times of 48.22 seconds. The mark puts Schmidt onto Milwaukee's top-ten list, tying him for eighth. Henry already sits in fifth with his PR of 47.51 seconds achieved earlier this season.
On the relay front, the 4x100m team of Cotton, Schmidt, Reeves-Lile, and
Anthony Kessler ran the second fastest time in program history at 40.70 seconds, taking third in the event.
"Our team should be extremely excited coming off this strong weekend with the Horizon League Championships around the corner," Basler said. "There is a tremendous amount of momentum and energy right now and we are excited to keep it going next weekend."
The Horizon League Championships are next for the Panthers and will run from May 3-5 in Rochester, Michigan.
